At pre-school, we believe that care and education are equally important in the experience that we offer children. The routines and activities that make up our sessions in pre-school are provided in ways that:
- Help each child to feel that he/she is a valued member of the setting
- Ensure the safety of each child
- Help children to gain from social experience of being part of a group
- Provide children with opportunities to learn and help them to value learning
A Daily Session
We organise our sessions so that the children can independently choose from and work at a range of activities. In doing so they build up their ability to select and work through a task, partly in adult-led small and large group activities. This will introduce them to new experiences and to help them gain new skills, as well as helping them to work with others.
Outdoor activities contribute to children’s health, physical development and knowledge of the world around them. The children have the opportunity, and are encouraged to take part in, outdoor child-chosen and adult-led activities, as well as those provided in the indoor classroom.
Snack Time
We operate an open snack bar system during the morning session starting from 10:00. We have a dedicated snack bar area where children are encouraged to wash their hands, find their snack pot and drink from the trolley then to sit at the table with their friends and a staff member. You must provide them with a snack and when packing your child’s snack please keep it healthy; including any of the following: fruit, vegetables, crackers, cheese, yoghurt or ham. We provide milk and water at the snack bar but also ask parents to provide their child with a labelled drink that they can access during the session.
Children are encouraged to be independent about coming to the snack bar. Whilst they eat at it, we check to see who has been and tell them that the snack bar will close soon and that they need to come and have a snack before it closes.
Lunch Club
Lunch club is available at 13:00 for children attending a full-day session only. If your child attends the lunch club you must provide a packed lunch. We suggest that you pack healthy foods and do not over load them as this sometimes puts them off. In the hot weather we suggest that you put an ice pack in the box. In the cooler months, you can put their food in a thermos flask and we’ll transfer it to a plate for them at lunchtime.
